In conversation with Yero Adugna Eticha & Solomon Mekonen

November 2024, Göttingen

I had the opportunity to speak with filmmaker and visual anthropologist Solomon Mekonen and photographer Yero Adugna Eticha about their work for the ‘Black multiplicities, African multiplicities? Theorising Migration, Identity, and Blackness from European perspectives’ workshop held in Göttingen. The invitation came from Madeline Bass and Johanna Lukate who are heading up the ‘Migration, Identity and Blackness in Europe’ working group at the Max Planck Institute. Solomon and I go way back and being familiar with Yero’s work and the legacy of portraiture within the black diaspora communities in Berlin, it became an opportunity to draw that lineage out and why it matters to be seen.
